Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Moonwatt is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team in Europe. This role will involve developing our gigawatt-scale battery electrical and controls systems. The Embedded Systems Engineer will provide design direction, implementation, and testing of Moonwatt’s embedded systems and work closely with design and manufacturing teams, as well as external partners, to lead engineering implementation.
Responsibilities:
Act as the technical expert for Moonwatt’s high voltage ESS embedded software and associated components, from early architecture to validated product for mass-production.
Lead both internal development and collaboration with suppliers on requirements, design decisions, and interfaces in areas such as BMS, power electronics, and supervisory control.
Develop and manage software requirements, and support testing, integration, and validation of Moonwatt products.
Drive and participate in a culture of rapid development and testing.
Define and spearhead the selection and development of software tools, infrastructure, and best practices for a growing team.
Foster a collaborative team spirit and a proactive attitude. No task is too big or too small.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering, Electrical/Controls Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of relevant work experience in full life-cycle software development.
Demonstrated skills in C/C++ on Linux platforms
Understanding of operating system concepts and embedded software development environments and tools for real-time embedded operating systems (RTOS), such as Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, or VxWorks.
Experience with embedded system architectures, development environments, and debugging.
Experience with the design and manufacturing of medium to high-volume products.
Hands-on development, testing, and validation experience.
Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and leveraging technology to drive positive environmental impact.
Willingness and ability to travel ~10% of time
Eligibility to work in Europe.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing BMS (Battery Management Systems), EMS (Energy Management Systems), power electronics, and supervisory control systems.
Experience with utility-scale energy storage systems.
