System Modeling Engineer
Moonwatt is seeking a Systems Modeling Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team in Europe. This role is at the forefront of developing our gigawatt-scale energy storage systems. You will leverage your expertise to drive major thermal and electrical architectural decisions and deeply engage in key electrical and battery component simulations. The role requires both broad exploration and deep dives into specific areas. With a focus on rigorous optimization, meticulous documentation, and clear communication, you will work closely with design, test, validation, manufacturing engineering, and leadership to navigate our products’ development.
Responsibilities:
Define system and component design direction and requirements by developing detailed models of energy storage systems across operating modes and external conditions, including battery modules and power electronic components.
Identify key performance indicators and optimize system design to enhance these metrics.
Validate models with experimental data and refine them based on test results.
Engage in tireless exploration, both broadly and deeply, and clearly communicate assumptions, inputs, and findings.
Define and lead the selection and development of tools, infrastructure, and design practices.
Interface closely with design, test, validation, and manufacturing engineering partners to inform design decisions.
Promote and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing.
Foster a collaborative team spirit and a proactive attitude. No task is too big or too small.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
5-10 years of experience working with power systems.
Strong fundamentals in electrical and thermal engineering.
Extensive experience using MATLAB/Simulink or Python.
Familiarity with high voltage battery systems or power electronics.
Experience with the design and manufacturing of medium to high-volume products.
Hands-on prototyping, validation, and testing experience.
Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and leveraging technology to drive positive environmental impact.
Eligibility to work in Europe.
