Senior Electrical Engineer

Moonwatt is seeking an Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team in Europe and lead the development of our gigawatt-scale battery electrical and controls systems. This role will be responsible for the design rationale and implementation of Moonwatt’s electrical systems, working closely with other design and manufacturing teams as well as external partners to provide design direction and engineering leadership.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to the system design and integration of Moonwatt’s ESS from early development to large scale industrialization 

  • Integrate and develop battery management, power conversion, and supervisory control modules through external development cycles. 

  • Aid in the development of tools, infrastructure, and design practices for a growing team. 

  • Develop and manage electrical component requirements. 

  • Ensure success in testing, system integration, production, validation, and deployment of Moonwatt products through strong ownership. 

  • Promote and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing. 

  • Foster a collaborative team spirit and a proactive attitude. No task is too big or too small. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 

  • 8+ years of experience working with HV systems. 

  • Strong fundamentals in electrical and controls engineering. 

  • Familiarity with high-voltage system design. 

  • Proficiency in electrical engineering tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium, MATLAB). 

  • Experience in the design and manufacturing of medium to high-volume products. 

  • Hands-on prototyping, validation, and testing experience. 

  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and leveraging technology to drive positive environmental impact. 

  • Eligibility to work in Europe. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strong knowledge of battery chemistry, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and relevant electrical and safety standards. 

  • Experience in power electronics design. 

  • Experience in supervisory control design. 

  • Experience with utility-scale energy storage systems.
